Position Summary

The 148 OSS FT is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13) to operate advanced single or multi-engine military aircraft. The incumbent will execute tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques, maintaining full knowledge of aircraft systems under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions. This role includes responsibilities as a Supervisor of Flying (SOF), acting as the Air Commander’s representative to ensure safe and efficient mission accomplishment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Flight Operations: Conduct pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, route navigation, fuel requirements, and safety briefings. Verify aircraft readiness and perform post-flight logs, reports, and maintenance coordination.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to flight manual parameters and emergency procedures. Maintain mission qualifications and ensure compliance with all Air Force, ANG, and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Administrative and Program Support: Perform rotating duties in program support areas, including:
    • Training and Scheduling: Design comprehensive training plans and manage unit flying schedules.
    • Plans: Develop contingency plans for wartime, base, and national tasking.
    • Safety Programs: Administer and inspect safety programs, investigate incidents, and provide technical analysis to the Air Commander.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Military Membership: Active membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard is required. Candidates must be eligible for immediate membership and assignment to a compatible Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC).
  • Education: An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution is mandatory. A graduate degree is considered optimal.
  • Training/Certifications: Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT). Must possess FAA certifications or equivalent aviation certifications from accredited military schools.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of professional experience in civilian or military aviation programs (active duty, reserve, or National Guard). Must demonstrate pilot and instructor competencies in fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft.
  • Medical Standards: Must maintain the physical and medical standards required for USAF military pilots.
  • Suitability: Must successfully complete a federal background investigation, including security clearance validation and criminal history checks.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must wear the official military uniform.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for the Selective Service.
  • Appointment is subject to a two-year trial period and potential probationary requirements.
  • Position requires the ability to foster effective professional working relationships and contribute to a cooperative environment.
  • Military grade of the supervisor must equal or exceed the grade of personnel supervised (Officer O2–O5).
