Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) – Air National Guard

Position Summary: The Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) to support the 144th Fighter Wing (CA 144 FW). This position involves operating unit-equipped aircraft and performing administrative duties in support of the Air Operations program. This is an open-until-filled announcement; applications are reviewed every 30 days.

Position Details

This is a T32 Excepted Service position that may be permanent, indefinite, or temporary. Indefinite and temporary selectees may be eligible for conversion or extension based on funding and agency policy. Recruitment/relocation incentives and Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs may be authorized subject to agency determination and funding availability.

Core Duties

  • Pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft.
  • Execute administrative tasks to support the Air Operations program.

Requirements and Conditions of Employment

  • California National Guard Membership: Membership is mandatory. Selectees must wear the military uniform and adhere to grooming standards.
  • Military Compatibility: Selectees must hold a compatible military assignment and grade (O-1 through O-6) within the unit of employment.
  • Security Clearance: Must maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.
  • Compliance: Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Applicants born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Areas of Consideration: Open to current California National Guard employees, current California National Guard members, and current military members of the Air Force/Army National Guard, Reserve, or Active Duty.

Qualifications

General Experience: Applicants must possess a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification from an accredited civilian aviation program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school, plus one year of on-the-job experience at the grade or rank immediately below the next higher level.

Specialized Experience (GS-13): Must possess at least 36 months of specialized experience in:

  • Operating specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and preparation.
  • Reviewing/analyzing mission tasking, intelligence, and weather data.
  • Filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings.
  • Performing aircraft preflight inspections, loading, and equipment assessments.
  • Navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, and reconnaissance operations.
  • Training crew members on mission-specific tasks.
  • Developing plans, policies, and advising commanders.
  • Expertise in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, and mission tactics.
  • Managing unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with DOD, NGB, and OSHA regulations.

Education and Certification

Candidates must provide proof of FAA certification or military aviation school certification at the time of application. Transcripts and/or certificates are required for verification. Foreign education must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency by an accredited organization. Failure to submit required documentation will result in disqualification.

Additional Information

Military members currently receiving reenlistment bonuses or GI Bill-SR Kickers may lose eligibility upon accepting this technician position. Candidates are expected to uphold the U.S. Constitution and support the efficiency of the federal government.
