Position Overview

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position located at the Oklahoma Air National Guard, 138th Fighter Wing (Position Description Number: D0253P02). The primary purpose of this role is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing administrative duties in support of the Air Operations program.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will pilot advanced single or multi-engine military fighter aircraft, executing tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques. Responsibilities include:

  • Planning flights, including weather analysis, route mapping, fuel requirements, and flight plan filing.
  • Performing pre-flight checks, ensuring proper aircraft loading, and briefing crew members on emergency procedures.
  • Operating aircraft in accordance with flight manuals, maintaining communication with ground units, and taking corrective actions during emergencies.
  • Completing post-flight documentation, including logs, reports, and coordination with maintenance personnel.
  • Serving as Supervisor of Flying (SOF), with the authority to oversee mission accomplishment, divert aircraft, and coordinate with the FAA.
  • Participating in rotating administrative functions, including Training and Scheduling, Operations Planning, Safety Programs, and Inspector General support.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Must be a member of the National Guard or eligible for immediate membership and employment in the military grade (O-1 through O-4).
  • Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance.
  • Must hold a valid state driver’s license and qualify to operate government motor vehicles.
  • Maintain medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.
  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Commitment to wearing the military uniform and working flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Registration with the Selective Service for males born after December 31, 1959.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must possess a minimum of one year of on-the-job experience in the grade immediately below the next higher level. Specialized experience (at least two years) in civilian or military aviation programs is required, specifically in the piloting of main-frame military aircraft. Expertise must include:

  • Advanced knowledge of air navigation, meteorology, flight theory, and mission tactics.
  • Proficiency in crew briefings, mission planning, and quality control management.
  • Experience in safety program administration in accordance with Air Force, ANG, and OSHA directives.
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct and train other pilots in specified aircraft systems and mission scenarios.
  • Operational experience with instrument flight, tactical mission deployment, and emergency procedures.

Education

An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is mandatory. A graduate degree from an accredited civilian institution or professional military education school is preferred. Candidates must hold FAA certifications or equivalent military aviation certifications.
