Airplane Pilot (T32) - Air National Guard

Location: Duluth, MN | Unit: 148 OSS FT

Position Summary

This is an Air National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position. The incumbent serves as an Airplane Pilot, responsible for piloting advanced military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions. The role requires expert knowledge of aircraft systems, precision instrument flight techniques, and adherence to all flight safety parameters.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate high-performance military fighter aircraft across all weather conditions, ensuring mission accomplishment and safety.
  • Execute comprehensive pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, route navigation, fuel calculations, and crew/passenger briefings.
  • Perform post-flight activities, including logbook maintenance, flight reports, and coordination with maintenance personnel.
  • Serve as the Air Commander’s representative in the capacity of Supervisor of Flying (SOF), with authority to manage mission requirements, airspace utilization, and emergency responses.
  • Rotate through operational support functions, including Training and Scheduling, Plans, and Safety, to ensure organizational readiness and regulatory compliance.

Requirements and Qualifications

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Must be a member of the Minnesota Air National Guard or eligible for immediate membership and assignment to a compatible military AFSC.
  • Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Possession of FAA certifications from accredited civilian programs OR aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
  • Minimum of two years of working experience in civilian aviation, military aviation, or related operations support groups.
  • Current military grade: Officer (1st Lt/O2 - Lt Col/O5).

Conditions of Employment

  • Must maintain military medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.
  • Subject to a 2-year trial period and federal background investigation for security and suitability.
  • Requirement to wear the military uniform.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to foster effective professional working relationships.
