Airplane Pilot (120 OSS)

Position Summary: This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service non-bargaining unit position within the Montana Air National Guard, 120 OSS (Position Description Number D0253P02). The incumbent serves as an Airplane Pilot for advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, executing tactical and non-tactical missions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate aircraft using advanced precision instrument flight techniques, adhering to all flight parameters, safety protocols, and standard maneuvering procedures.
  • Conduct comprehensive flight preparations, including weather analysis, flight planning, weight and balance verification, preflight inspections, and crew/passenger briefings.
  • Perform post-flight activities such as documentation, maintenance coordination, and reporting.
  • Serve as the Air Commander’s representative when performing duties as Supervisor of Flying (SOF).
  • Rotate through administrative support areas including Training and Scheduling, Plans, Safety, and Inspector General programs.
  • Independently plan and perform assignments in compliance with NGB, USAF, and gaining command directives.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Military Membership: Must be or be eligible to become a member of the Montana Air National Guard. Military uniform wear is required.
  • Education: Must hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university (transcripts required).
  • Training/Certification: Must be a graduate of USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT). Must possess FAA certifications or certifications from an accredited military aviation school.
  • Rank/Experience: Military Grade O4/Maj - O5/Lt Col. Must be AFSC qualified in 11M3C or able to qualify within 6 months.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of specialized experience in aviation programs (civilian or military). Applicants must demonstrate expertise in piloting specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, aircraft safety, and unit operations. Detailed experience documentation is required in the resume.
  • Medical/Security: Must maintain USAF military pilot medical standards. Must be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance for the position.
  • Compliance: Must be registered for Selective Service (if male born after Dec 31, 1959). Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Conditions of Employment

This position may require work outside of normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Travel by military or commercial air may be required.
