Position Overview

This is a National Guard Title 32 excepted service position located at the OK 138th Fighter Wing, Oklahoma Air National Guard. The Airplane Pilot (Title 32) is responsible for operating unit-equipped (UE) aircraft and providing administrative support to the Air Operations program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent pilots advanced single or multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting mission planning, including weather analysis, route navigation, fuel requirements, and flight plan filing.
  • Performing pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks, ensuring compliance with safety parameters and aircraft manuals.
  • Serving as the Air Commander’s representative when performing duties as Supervisor of Flying (SOF), with authority to manage mission requirements and emergency actions.
  • Maintaining accurate flight logs, reports, and coordinating with maintenance personnel.
  • Rotating into functional administrative areas including Training and Scheduling, Operations Planning, Safety Program management, and Inspector General support.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Must be a member of the National Guard (or eligible for immediate membership and employment in the specified military grade).
  • Must hold a compatible military assignment in the Oklahoma Air National Guard prior to placement.
  • Must be a graduate of USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Must maintain current USAF military pilot medical standards.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and qualify to operate government motor vehicles.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • Must be registered for Selective Service (for males born after 31 December 1959).
  • Required to wear the military uniform.

Qualifications

Military Grade

O-1 through O-4.

Education

An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is mandatory. A graduate degree from an accredited institution or equivalent professional military education school is preferred. Candidates must possess FAA pilot certifications or appropriate military aviation certifications.

Experience

Candidates must demonstrate at least two years of specialized experience in civilian or military aviation programs. Applicants must exhibit core competencies in piloting, mission planning, instructing pilot skills, aircraft quality control management, and the application of Department of the Air Force and OSHA safety directives.

Conditions of Employment

  • Subject to a background investigation and potential trial or probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Work may require travel via military or commercial air.
  • Incumbents may be required to work outside of normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
