Position Summary

The 153d Operations Support Squadron is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot to operate C-130 aircraft in tactical and non-tactical missions. This position serves as a core member of the flight operations team, responsible for advanced precision instrument flight, mission planning, and administrative support for the Air Operations program. The incumbent may also serve as the Air Commander’s representative in the capacity of Supervisor of Flying (SOF), ensuring safe and efficient mission accomplishment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pilot advanced multi-engine military aircraft using precision instrument techniques and navigation aids.
  • Conduct comprehensive flight planning, including weather analysis, route determination, fuel requirements, and flight plan submission.
  • Perform pre-flight inspections, including weight and balance verification, maintenance checks, and crew/passenger safety briefings.
  • Ensure operational safety by adhering to flight manuals, coordinating with ground control, and executing emergency procedures as necessary.
  • Manage post-flight activities, including logbook maintenance, flight reporting, and debriefing with maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable safety programs and flight directives.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Mandatory Professional Requirements

  • Education: Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is mandatory.
  • Aviation Certification: Possession of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates OR appropriate military aviation certifications from accredited military schools.
  • Military Compatibility: Must possess AFSC 11M (C-130 Mobility Pilot). Must be eligible to join/maintain membership in the Wyoming Air National Guard.
  • Training: Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Medical: Must maintain medical standards required of USAF military pilots.

Specialized Experience (GS-13)

Applicants must demonstrate at least 24 months of experience in military or civilian aviation programs, including at least 24 months of piloting or instructing in C-130 aircraft. This experience must include expertise in:

  • Strategic planning, unit mobilization, and contingency operations.
  • Safety program management, including operational risk management and accident reporting.
  • Comprehensive mission preparation, including intelligence/weather analysis and equipment assessment.
  • Aviation scheduling and control within FAA-regulated national airspace.

Conditions of Employment

  • Military Affiliation: Open to current active-duty Air Force, Air Force Reserves, and Air National Guard members. Must become a military member of the Wyoming Air National Guard prior to appointment.
  • Military Grade: Limited to O-2/1Lt through O-5/Lt Col.
  • Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for access to classified information.
  • Documentation: Candidates must submit vMPF RIP, DVR, or CDB with their resume.
  • Trial Period: May be subject to a two-year trial period.
  • Duty Hours: Flexibility required; work may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Travel: Travel by military or commercial air may be required.
  • Licensure: Must possess a valid driver's license.

Important Information

This is a permanent, full-time position with a standard work schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 4:30 pm. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized subject to funding and approval. PCS costs are not authorized.
