Position Summary

The 148 OSS FT is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13) to perform duties as a pilot of advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft. This position involves executing tactical and non-tactical missions using advanced precision instrument flight techniques. The incumbent maintains thorough knowledge of aircraft systems and operating procedures under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Flight Operations: Execute missions within established flight parameters; perform mission planning, including weather analysis, route mapping, fuel requirements, and pre-flight inspections.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure safe flight operations; coordinate with ground units; perform post-flight reporting and log maintenance.
  • Supervisor of Flying (SOF): Serve as the Air Commander’s representative, managing safe mission accomplishment with the authority to divert aircraft or cancel activities as required.
  • Program Support: Rotate through functional areas, including Training and Scheduling (designing training scenarios), Plans (wartime/peacetime contingency planning), and Safety (administering safety programs in compliance with OSHA and Air Force directives).

Qualifications

  • Education: A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. A graduate degree is considered optimal.
  • Certifications: Must hold Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications or equivalent military aviation school credentials.
  • Training: Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT) is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of work experience in civilian aviation, military aviation (active or reserve), or Air National Guard/Army National Guard aviation support facilities.
  • Competencies: Demonstrated experience in piloting or instructing in fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft.
  • Medical Standards: Must maintain the physical and medical standards required for USAF military pilots.

Conditions of Employment

  • Military Membership: Applicants must be members of the Minnesota Air National Guard or eligible for immediate membership. A compatible military position and AFSC are required.
  • Uniform: Selectees are required to wear the military uniform.
  • Suitability: Employment is subject to a background investigation to validate federal suitability, including criminal history, employment, education, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Selective Service: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Probationary Period: Appointment is subject to a two-year trial period in accordance with EO 14284.
