Position Overview

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position for an Airplane Pilot (Position Description Number D0253P02) with the OK 138th Fighter Wing, Oklahoma Air National Guard. The primary purpose of this role is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing administrative tasks in support of the Air Operations program.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pilot advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Maintain mission qualifications and comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions.
  • Execute mission preparation, including weather analysis, flight planning, fuel requirement calculations, and crew briefings.
  • Operate aircraft according to established safety parameters and flight manuals, coordinating with ground units and controlling agencies.
  • Complete post-flight activities, including log maintenance, reporting, and maintenance coordination.
  • Serve as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), acting as the Air Commander’s representative with authority to manage mission accomplishment, divert aircraft, and direct emergency actions.
  • Perform rotational administrative duties in areas including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, Safety Program management, and Inspector General support.

Mandatory Requirements and Conditions of Employment

  • Military Membership: Applicants must be current members of the National Guard or eligible for immediate membership and compatible military assignment.
  • Uniform Requirement: The selectee is required to wear the official military uniform.
  • Education: An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is mandatory.
  • Certifications: Must hold Federal Aviation Administration certifications or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
  • Training: Applicants must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Medical/Licensing: Must maintain USAF military pilot medical standards and hold a valid state driver’s license.
  • Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for access to classified information.
  • Legal/Compliance: Selective Service registration required for males born after December 31, 1959. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Availability: Must be available for travel and may be required to work non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

Military Grades: O-1 through O-4.

Experience: Applicants must possess at least two years of specialized experience in civilian aviation, military aviation, or within an Air National Guard/Army National Guard Operations environment. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to train and instruct other pilots and possess expertise in mission planning, aviation safety programs, and aircraft operations within Federal Aviation Administration-controlled airspace.
