Position Overview: Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire)
The Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, CA 144 FW, is currently accepting applications for an Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire), GS-2181-13. This position is located at the unit level and serves as a vital component of the Air Operations program, responsible for piloting unit-equipped (UE) aircraft and performing essential administrative support tasks.
This is an open-until-filled announcement. Applications are reviewed on a 30-day cycle, and candidates will be notified of their status following each review.
Employment Status
This is a T32 Excepted Service position, which may be permanent, indefinite, or temporary. Indefinite selectees may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to permanent status based on funding and position availability. Temporary selectees may be eligible for extensions up to four years.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

Pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft for mission-specific operations.

Perform administrative tasks to support the Air Operations program.

Review and analyze mission tasking, intelligence, and meteorological data.

Conduct crew briefings and file flight plans.

Execute aircraft preflight inspections, equipment assessments, and loading procedures.

Supervise or conduct navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, and reconnaissance operations.

Train crew members in mission-specific tasks ranging from basic to complex.

Advise commanders and develop organizational plans, policies, and operational monitoring procedures.

Ensure compliance with all flying directives, mission tactics, flight theory, and safety programs (Department of Defense, NGB, and OSHA standards).
Qualifications and Requirements
General Experience
Candidates must possess a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification from an accredited civilian aviation program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school. Additionally, candidates must have at least one year of on-the-job experience at the grade or military rank immediately below the next higher level.
Specialized Experience (GS-2181-13)
Applicants must demonstrate at least 36 months of specialized experience in operating specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation.

California National Guard Membership:
Membership is mandatory. Candidates must be members of or be willing to join the California National Guard in a compatible unit of assignment commensurate with the military grade (O-1 through O-6).

Uniform and Grooming:
Selectees must wear the appropriate military uniform and adhere to all military grooming standards.

Security Clearance:
Candidates must obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.

Financial Requirements:
Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Selective Service:
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service System.

Administrative Compliance:
Applicants must provide unofficial transcripts and/or certificates at the time of application to verify educational or certification requirements. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
