Airplane Pilot (T32) - Air National Guard

Location: Duluth, MN

Unit: 148 OSS FT

This is a Title 32 Excepted Service position within the Air National Guard. Applicants must be current members of the Minnesota Air National Guard or be eligible for immediate membership and employment. This appointment is subject to a two-year trial period.

Position Summary

The Airplane Pilot operates advanced, high-performance military fighter aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions. The incumbent utilizes advanced precision instrument flight techniques and maintains a thorough knowledge of aircraft systems and emergency procedures. Responsibilities include flight planning, pre-flight verification, safe operation of aircraft, and completion of post-flight documentation. The pilot may serve as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), representing the Air Commander with the authority to manage mission requirements, airspace utilization, and emergency actions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute standard and advanced flight procedures in all weather conditions.
  • Perform comprehensive mission planning, including route analysis, fuel requirements, and regulatory clearances.
  • Coordinate with ground units and controlling activities to ensure operational safety.
  • Maintain aircraft logs, mission reports, and conduct necessary service coordination with maintenance personnel.
  • Participate in administrative program support areas, including Training and Scheduling, mission Planning, and Safety program management.
  • Investigate incidents, analyze safety data, and advise the Air Commander on unit safety status.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required. A graduate degree is preferred.
  • Certifications: Must hold Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
  • Experience: Applicants must have at least two years of specialized experience in civilian or military aviation programs, including fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).
  • Training: Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT) is required.
  • Military Compatibility: Must be assigned to a compatible military position (Officer ranks 1st Lt/O2 to Lt Col/O5) and maintain membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard. Failure to obtain/maintain a compatible AFSC may result in termination.
  • Medical: Pilots must maintain current USAF military pilot medical standards.
  • Conditions of Employment: Selected candidates must wear the military uniform, register for Selective Service (if male, born after Dec 31, 1959), and successfully pass a federal background investigation to determine suitability for security clearance and DOD IT access.

Additional Information

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment physical. This position does not offer Permanent Change of Station (PCS) benefits. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. The Minnesota National Guard is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
