Position Overview

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position located at the Oklahoma Air National Guard, 138th Fighter Wing. The primary purpose of this role is to serve as an Airplane Pilot (Position Description D0253P02) for unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while providing administrative support to the Air Operations program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pilot advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of aircraft systems, emergency procedures, and mission qualifications.
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, fuel requirements, flight routing, and crew/passenger briefings.
  • Operate aircraft with strict adherence to safety parameters, communicating effectively with ground control and monitoring flight performance.
  • Execute post-flight documentation, including flight reports, logs, and maintenance coordination.
  • Serve as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), representing the Air Commander to ensure safe and efficient mission accomplishment.
  • Rotate through functional administrative areas, including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, Safety Program Management, and Inspector General support.

Requirements and Qualifications

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Must be a member of the National Guard (or eligible for immediate membership and employment in the specified military grade).
  • Military Grades: O-1 through O-4.
  • Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Possession of an undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Possession of FAA pilot certificates OR appropriate military certifications/ratings for the main-frame aircraft of employment.
  • Must maintain medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.
  • Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • Valid state driver’s license.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of specialized experience in aviation programs (civilian, active duty, reserve, or National Guard).
  • Demonstrated competence in piloting and instructing others in specific military aircraft.
  • Experience in mission planning, crew briefing, safety program management, and aviation quality control.
  • Proficiency in flight theory, meteorology, air navigation, and combat/non-combat tactics.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must wear the military uniform.
  • Must be registered for Selective Service (for males born after 31 December 1959).
  • Subject to federal background investigation and potential trial or probationary periods.
  • Mandatory participation in direct deposit.
  • May require travel via military or commercial air.
  • Required to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
