Position Summary

The 148 OSS FT is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13) to operate advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft. The incumbent will execute tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques, maintain mission qualifications, and ensure the safe operation of aircraft under all weather conditions. This position involves both flying duties and administrative responsibilities within Air Operations, including training, scheduling, contingency planning, and safety program management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pilots high-performance military aircraft, executing standard maneuvers and normal flight procedures within established parameters.
  • Conducts thorough mission planning, including route navigation, fuel requirement analysis, flight plan filing, and crew/passenger briefings.
  • Maintains responsibility for post-flight activities, including log maintenance, reporting, and coordination with maintenance personnel.
  • Serves as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), representing the Air Commander with the authority to manage mission requirements, airspace utilization, and emergency actions.
  • Rotates through administrative support areas, including the design of aircrew training scenarios, development of wartime contingency plans, and administration of flying/ground safety programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. A graduate degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Training: Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in civilian, military (active/reserve), or National Guard aviation programs. Must have experience piloting and instructing in fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft.
  • Certifications: Must hold FAA certifications from an accredited civilian program OR aviation certifications from an accredited military aviation school.
  • Medical: Ability to maintain the same medical standards as USAF military pilots.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a current member of the Minnesota Air National Guard or eligible for immediate membership/enlistment.
  • Must be assigned to a compatible military position and maintain a compatible Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC).
  • Must wear the military uniform and maintain professional working relationships.
  • Completion of a federal background investigation is required to validate suitability for employment and network access.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Employment is subject to a two-year trial period and may require a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
