Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) - GS-2181-13

The Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, currently seeks qualified candidates for an Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) position (GS-2181-13) based with the CA 144 FW. This is an excepted service position that may be filled on a permanent, indefinite, or temporary basis.

Position Summary

The primary purpose of this role is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing administrative duties in support of the Air Operations program. This is an open-until-filled announcement; applications are reviewed every 30 days.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate unit-equipped aircraft.
  • Execute administrative tasks to support Air Operations.
  • Conduct mission planning, preparation, and crew briefings.
  • Review and analyze mission tasking, intelligence, and meteorological data.
  • Perform aircraft preflight inspections, loading, and equipment assessments.
  • Supervise procedures for navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, and reconnaissance.
  • Train crew members on mission-specific tasks.
  • Develop operational plans and policies while advising commanders.
  • Maintain compliance with safety programs, flying directives, and military regulations.

Requirements and Conditions of Employment

  • California National Guard Membership: Membership is mandatory. Selectees must maintain a compatible military unit, grade (O-1 through O-6), and job assignment.
  • Uniform and Grooming: Must wear the military uniform and adhere to official grooming standards.
  • Security Clearance: Must maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.
  • Financial Compliance: Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Selective Service: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.

Qualifications

General Experience: Candidates must possess an FAA certification from an accredited civilian aviation program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school, plus one year of on-the-job experience in the grade immediately below the next higher level.

Specialized Experience: Candidates must demonstrate 36 months of specialized competence in operating specific main-frame military aircraft. Expertise required includes flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, mission tactics, and operating procedures.

Education and Certification

Applicants must provide copies of FAA or military aviation certifications at the time of application. Foreign education credentials must be evaluated for equivalence to U.S. standards by an accredited organization. Failure to provide required documentation will result in automatic disqualification.

Additional Information

Recruitment/relocation incentives and Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs may be authorized subject to funding, agency determination, and regulatory provisions. Candidates currently receiving military bonuses (REB or GI Bill-SR Kicker) should be aware that accepting a military technician position may impact incentive eligibility.
