Position Summary

The 148 OSS FT is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13). The incumbent is responsible for piloting advanced single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, on both tactical and non-tactical missions. This role requires the application of advanced precision instrument flight techniques and thorough knowledge of aircraft systems under normal and emergency conditions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute standard flight procedures and maneuvers in all weather conditions, adhering to flight parameters specified in manuals.
  • Conduct comprehensive flight planning, including weather analysis, route navigation, fuel calculations, and filing flight plans.
  • Perform pre-flight inspections, including weight and balance verification, maintenance status checks, and crew/passenger briefings.
  • Maintain, log, and report flight data; coordinate with maintenance personnel for post-flight servicing.
  • Serve as the Air Commander’s representative when performing duties as Supervisor of Flying (SOF), overseeing mission safety, airspace utilization, and emergency response.
  • Rotate through operational support roles, including Training and Scheduling, Plans (wartime/contingency), and Safety program management.

Requirements and Qualifications

Mandatory Eligibility

  • Must be or be eligible for immediate membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard.
  • Must hold a compatible military grade between 1st Lt/O2 and Lt Col/O5.
  • Must graduate from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Must maintain medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.
  • Must possess Federal Aviation Administration certifications or aviation certifications from accredited military schools.
  • Must hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience Requirements

Applicants must possess at least two years of specialized experience in civilian aviation, military service aviation (active duty or reserve), or aviation support facilities. Experience must include piloting and instructing skills in fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft. All qualifications will be evaluated in accordance with the 2025 MPP Air National Guard Qualification Standards.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must wear the military uniform.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service System.
  • Subject to a background investigation to determine federal employment suitability and security clearance eligibility.
  • Appointment is subject to a 2-year trial period.
  • Must maintain a compatible Military Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC).
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
