Position Summary
The Montana Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot for a Title 32 Excepted Service, non-bargaining unit position. This role involves piloting advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter jets, to execute tactical and non-tactical missions. The incumbent serves as a representative of the Air Commander and may perform duties as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF).
Core Duties and Responsibilities

Operate advanced military aircraft using precision instrument flight techniques while maintaining thorough knowledge of aircraft systems under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions.

Perform comprehensive flight preparation, including weather analysis, route planning, fuel requirement calculations, weight distribution checks, and crew briefings.

Maintain the highest standards of safety, adhering to manual parameters, communicating with ground control, and executing corrective actions as required.

Execute post-flight responsibilities, including log maintenance, reporting, and coordination with maintenance personnel.

Rotate through administrative support areas, including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, Safety Program management, and Inspector General support.

Independently plan and perform assignments while adhering to NGB, United States Air Force, and gaining command directives.
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

Military Membership:
Must be a member of the Montana National Guard. External applicants must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the required military grade.

Military Grade:
Must hold or be eligible for military grades O4/Maj - O5/Lt Col.

Education:
Must hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university (transcripts required).

Training/Certification:
Must be a graduate of USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT). Must possess Federal Aviation Administration certifications or aviation certifications from an accredited military aviation school.

Professional Qualifications:
Must be AFSC qualified in 11M3C or able to qualify within 6 months of hire.

Experience:
Must possess at least two years of specialized experience in civilian or military aviation programs (active duty/reserve/National Guard). Candidates must demonstrate comprehensive experience in piloting, instructing, mission planning, and administrative oversight as specified in the position criteria.

Medical:
Must maintain the same medical standards as USAF military pilots.

Must be registered for Selective Service (for males born after 31 December 1959).

Position may require irregular duty hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel via military or commercial air.
