Position Summary
The 148th Operations Support Squadron is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13). This position involves piloting advanced, high-performance military fighter aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions. The incumbent serves as a representative of the Air Commander, performing duties as a Supervisor of Flying (SOF) and maintaining operational readiness in all flight parameters and weather conditions.
Core Duties

Operate advanced single or multi-engine military aircraft using precision instrument flight techniques.

Execute comprehensive flight planning, including weather analysis, route navigation, fuel calculations, and filing flight plans.

Perform all pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight procedures, ensuring compliance with flight manual parameters and safety protocols.

Maintain mission qualifications and deep knowledge of aircraft systems under normal and emergency conditions.

Serve as Supervisor of Flying (SOF), with the authority to manage mission requirements, coordinate with the FAA, and direct emergency actions.

Rotate into functional support roles, including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, and Safety program administration.

Conduct technical analysis of safety data and investigate incidents to ensure organizational compliance with Air Force, ANG, and OSHA directives.
Requirements and Conditions of Employment

Must be or be eligible to become a member of the Minnesota Air National Guard.

Must wear the prescribed military uniform.

Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).

Must maintain medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.

Possession of an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.

Must hold FAA certifications from accredited civilian programs or equivalent aviation certifications from military aviation schools.

Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Must obtain and maintain a compatible Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC).

Subject to a background investigation and federal employment suitability check.

Two-year trial period per EO 14284.
Qualifications

Experience:
At least two years of specialized experience in civilian aviation programs, military service aviation programs, or Air National Guard Operations groups.

Competencies:
Demonstrated proficiency in piloting fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).

Military Grade:
Officer (1st Lt/O2 to Lt Col/O5).

Education:
Graduate degree from an accredited institution is preferred.
