Airplane Pilot (C-130) – Wyoming Air National Guard

The Wyoming Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (Position Description PDD0253P02) to serve within the 153d Operations Support Squadron. This is a Title 32 Dual Status Technician Excepted Service position. The successful candidate will be responsible for piloting C-130 aircraft and providing administrative support to the Air Operations program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pilot advanced multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Execute comprehensive flight planning, including weather analysis, route determination, fuel requirements, and pre-flight inspections.
  • Ensure the safety and briefing of all crew members and passengers.
  • Communicate with ground units, monitor aircraft performance, and execute emergency procedures when necessary.
  • Complete post-flight documentation, including maintenance reports and logs.
  • Serve as the Air Commander’s representative in the capacity of Supervisor of Flying (SOF).

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Military Requirement: Must possess AFSC 11M (C-130 Mobility Pilot). Candidates must be in a compatible military grade (O-2/1Lt to O-5/Lt Col).
  • Education: An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is mandatory.
  • Training: Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Experience: Minimum of 24 months of specialized experience in military or civilian aviation, specifically in piloting or instructing C-130 aircraft. This includes experience in mission planning, unit safety programs, and operational risk management.
  • Certifications: Must hold FAA pilot certificates or appropriate military certifications and ratings for the C-130H.
  • Health and Legal: Must maintain USAF medical standards for pilots, possess a valid driver’s license, and be able to obtain/maintain a security clearance.

Conditions of Employment

  • Applicants must be current active-duty Air Force, Air Force Reserves, or Air National Guard members and must be willing to join the Wyoming Air National Guard prior to appointment.
  • Must submit vMPF Rip, DVR, or CDB with the resume.
  • Position may require a two-year trial period and a background investigation for federal suitability.
  • Travel, including military or commercial air for official conferences and meetings, may be required.
  • Work hours may extend beyond a standard schedule to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Acceptance of this position terminates certain military incentives, including SRIP, TRS, and enlistment/retention bonuses.

Additional Information

This is a permanent, full-time position (Monday–Friday, 7:00 am – 4:30 pm). Primary physical presence is required, though situational telework may be considered. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized subject to funding and approval. Veterans' preference does not apply to Title 32 National Guard Technician positions per USC 709(f).
