Position Summary
The 148 OSS FT is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13) to operate advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft. This role involves executing tactical and non-tactical missions, performing precision instrument flight techniques, and ensuring the safety and operational efficiency of assigned aircraft. The incumbent serves as the Air Commander's representative when performing duties as Supervisor of Flying (SOF).
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Pilots high-performance military aircraft in all weather conditions, maintaining thorough knowledge of systems, emergency procedures, and flight parameters.

Conducts comprehensive pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, route navigation, fuel calculations, and crew/passenger briefings.

Maintains command of aircraft operations, coordinating with ground units and controlling agencies to ensure mission safety and compliance.

Completes all post-flight documentation, including logs, forms, and maintenance reports.

Acts as Supervisor of Flying (SOF) with the authority to manage mission requirements, divert aircraft, and oversee emergency actions.

Performs administrative and functional support duties, including training and scheduling, operational planning for wartime and contingency missions, and managing unit safety programs.
Required Qualifications

Education:
A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. A graduate degree in a relevant field is preferred.

Training:
Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).

Experience:
Minimum of two years of experience in civilian aviation programs, military aviation service (active duty or reserve), or equivalent aviation support facility roles.

Certifications:
Must hold Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications from an accredited civilian program OR aviation certifications from an accredited military aviation school.

Medical Standards:
Must maintain the same medical standards required of USAF military pilots.

Military Membership:
Must be or be eligible for immediate membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard and hold/obtain a compatible Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC).

Appointment is subject to a 2-year trial period and potential probationary requirements.

Must possess the ability to maintain effective professional working relationships.

Must be eligible for federal suitability and security clearance requirements, including a comprehensive background investigation.

Selectee is required to wear the military uniform.

Military grades for this position range from 1st Lt/O2 to Lt Col/O5.
