Position Overview: Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) – Air National Guard
The Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, is currently accepting applications for the position of Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire), GS-2181-13, located within the CA 144 FW. This is an open-until-filled announcement, with applications reviewed every 30 days.
This is a T32 Excepted Service position, which may be categorized as permanent, indefinite, or temporary. Indefinite and temporary appointments may be subject to non-competitive extension or conversion based on funding availability and organizational requirements.
Primary Duties
The primary responsibility of the Airplane Pilot is to operate unit-equipped (UE) aircraft. In addition to flight operations, the incumbent performs administrative tasks essential to supporting the Air Operations program, including mission planning, compliance with flying directives, and adherence to safety protocols.
Candidate Requirements and Qualifications
General Experience:
Candidates must possess a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification from an accredited civilian program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school. Additionally, candidates must have one year of on-the-job experience at the grade or comparable military rank immediately below the next higher level.
Specialized Experience (GS-2181-13):
Applicants must demonstrate at least 36 months of specialized experience in the following areas:

Operating specific main-frame military aircraft.

Mission planning, preparation, and analysis of intelligence, weather, and tasking data.

Filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings.

Performing preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments.

Supervising or performing navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, or reconnaissance operations.

Conducting crew training and developing operational plans and policies.

Knowledge of flight theory, meteorology, and mission tactics.

Oversight of flying, explosive, and ground safety programs.
Conditions of Employment

Military Membership:
Membership in the California National Guard is strictly required. Selectees must hold a compatible military grade (O-1 through O-6) and unit assignment.

Uniform and Grooming:
Must maintain all required military uniform and grooming standards.

Security:
Must maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.

Documentation:
Applicants must provide unofficial transcripts and/or certificates at the time of application to verify educational or certification requirements. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

Compliance:
Must participate in direct deposit and meet all applicable Selective Service registration requirements.
