Airplane Pilot (Montana Air National Guard)
Position Summary:
The Montana Air National Guard, 120 OSS, is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot for a Title 32 Excepted Service non-bargaining unit position (Position Description Number D0253P02). This role involves piloting advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter jets, for tactical and non-tactical missions.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:

Execute advanced precision instrument flight techniques and standard maneuvers across all weather conditions.

Perform comprehensive flight preparation, including weather analysis, route planning, fuel requirement calculations, aircraft weight and balance verification, and preflight inspections.

Ensure passenger and crew safety through mandatory briefings and adherence to all flight manual parameters.

Manage post-flight activities, including log maintenance, reporting, and coordination with maintenance personnel.

Serve as the Air Commander’s representative in the Supervisor of Flying (SOF) capacity.

Support departmental functional areas as required, including Training and Scheduling, Plans, Safety, and Inspector General operations.
Minimum Qualifications:

Military Membership:
Must be or be eligible to become a member of the Montana Air National Guard.

Education:
Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university (transcripts required).

Aviation Training:
Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).

Certification:
Must hold Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications from an accredited civilian aviation program or aviation certifications from an accredited military aviation school.

Military Grade:
O4/Maj – O5/Lt Col.

Qualification:
Must be AFSC qualified in 11M3C or capable of qualifying within six months of hire.

Experience:
Minimum of two years of specialized experience in aviation programs (civilian, military active duty, reserve components, or National Guard). Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in pilot instruction, mission planning, aircraft maintenance coordination, and operational safety programs.
Conditions of Employment:

Must maintain medical standards required for USAF military pilots.

Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for access to classified information.

Required to wear the military uniform.

Mandatory registration with the Selective Service for males born after December 31, 1959.

Participation in direct deposit is required.

Must be available for work outside of normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Subject to travel for official functions via military or commercial air.
