Position Overview

The Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, CA 144 FW, is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) to serve in a T32 Excepted Service capacity. This position may be permanent, indefinite, or temporary based on operational needs. The primary objective of the role is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while providing essential administrative support to the Air Operations program.

This is an open-until-filled announcement. Applications are reviewed on a 30-day cycle.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Airplane Pilot performs critical flight operations and administrative functions, including:

  • Piloting unit-equipped (UE) aircraft.
  • Reviewing and analyzing mission tasking, intelligence, and meteorological data.
  • Filing flight plans and conducting comprehensive crew briefings.
  • Executing preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments.
  • Performing or supervising navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, and reconnaissance operations.
  • Conducting crew training on mission-specific tasks.
  • Advising commanders on flight theory, air navigation, mission tactics, and operating procedures.
  • Monitoring compliance with safety programs in accordance with Department of Defense, National Guard Bureau, and OSHA policies.

Candidate Requirements

Conditions of Employment

  • Membership Requirements: Must maintain membership in the California National Guard.
  • Uniform and Grooming: Must wear the appropriate military uniform and adhere to official grooming standards.
  • Compatibility: Must maintain a compatible military unit, grade (O-1 through O-6), and job assignment.
  • Clearance: Must maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.
  • Financial: Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Selective Service: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.

Qualifications

General Experience

Candidates must possess a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification from an accredited civilian program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school, along with one year of on-the-job experience in the grade or comparable military rank immediately below the next higher level.

Specialized Experience (GS-2181-13)

Candidates must demonstrate at least 36 months of specialized experience in operating specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation. Proficiency in the following competency areas is required:

  • Education and Training Program Administration
  • Operation and Control
  • Planning and Evaluating
  • Safety and Security

Education and Certification Documentation

Applicants are required to provide copies of unofficial transcripts and/or certifications at the time of application to verify eligibility. Only education from institutions accredited by agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education will be accepted. Foreign education must be accompanied by an evaluation from a specialist organization to determine U.S. equivalency.

Recruitment, relocation incentives, and Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs may be authorized subject to funding, agency determination, and applicable travel regulations. Note that acceptance of this position may impact existing military bonuses, such as the Reenlistment/Extension Bonus (REB) or GI Bill-SR Kicker.
