Position Overview

This is a National Guard Title 32 excepted service position for an Airplane Pilot (Position Description Number D0253P02). The role is based within the Oklahoma Air National Guard, 138th Fighter Wing, Operations Group. The primary mission is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing essential administrative tasks in support of the Air Operations program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pilot advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of aircraft systems, emergency procedures, and mission qualifications.
  • Execute mission planning, including weather analysis, route determination, fuel requirements, and pre-flight inspections.
  • Ensure crew and passenger safety through rigorous briefing and adherence to flight manual parameters.
  • Perform post-flight activities, including documentation, reporting, and coordination with maintenance personnel.
  • Serve as the Air Commander’s representative in the Supervisor of Flying (SOF) capacity, overseeing safe mission accomplishment and airspace utilization.
  • Rotate through functional support areas, including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, Safety Program Management, and Inspector General duties.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Military Membership: Applicants must be or become members of the Oklahoma Air National Guard and maintain a compatible military assignment.
  • Military Grade: O-1 through O-4.
  • Education: A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. A graduate degree is considered optimal.
  • Aviation Certification: Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT). Must possess either FAA pilot certificates or appropriate military aviation certifications.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of specialized experience in aviation programs (civilian, military, or National Guard aviation support facilities).
  • Medical/Licensing: Must maintain USAF military pilot medical standards and possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Security: Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for access to classified information.

Conditions of Employment

  • Acceptance of this position constitutes agreement to serve in a military capacity, wear the military uniform, and comply with all National Guard requirements.
  • Must be registered for Selective Service (for males born after 31 December 1959).
  • Subject to a background investigation and potential trial or probationary periods.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Required to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • May require travel via military or commercial air.

Technical Competencies

The incumbent must demonstrate proficiency in:

  • Instructional techniques for training other pilots.
  • Operational Risk Management and aviation quality control.
  • Development of unit safety, explosive, and ground safety programs.
  • Navigation, in-flight refueling, and combat/non-combat mission tactics.
  • Applying federal and military aviation directives, standard operating procedures, and mission-specific intelligence.
