Position Summary

The 148 OSS FT is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13) to operate advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft. This role involves executing tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques. The incumbent will maintain mission qualifications, oversee flight planning, ensure operational safety, and perform post-flight reporting. Additionally, the pilot will serve as the Air Commander’s representative when performing Supervisor of Flying (SOF) duties, with authority over mission accomplishment, airspace utilization, and emergency actions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate high-performance military aircraft across all weather conditions while adhering to established flight parameters.
  • Conduct comprehensive flight planning, including weather analysis, route navigation, fuel calculations, and safety briefings.
  • Monitor aircraft performance and coordinate with ground units and controlling agencies.
  • Execute post-flight procedures, including aircraft logging and maintenance coordination.
  • Perform administrative rotation duties, including:
    • Training and Scheduling: Designing training plans and managing flying schedules.
    • Plans: Developing wartime and peacetime contingency plans.
    • Safety: Administering flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in compliance with federal directives.

Requirements and Qualifications

Mandatory Eligibility

  • Must be a member of the Minnesota Air National Guard or eligible for immediate membership.
  • Military Grade: Officer (1st Lt/O2 - Lt Col/O5).
  • Must successfully complete a two-year trial period.
  • Must possess an undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Must be a graduate of USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Must hold Federal Aviation Administration certifications or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
  • Must maintain medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a compatible Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC).

Experience Requirements

Candidates must possess at least two years of specialized experience in civilian aviation, military aviation (active duty or reserve), or equivalent National Guard support facility operations. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in piloting and instructing skills in fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft. Qualifications will be assessed per the 2025 MPP Air National Guard Qualification Standards.

Conditions of Employment
