Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) – GS-2181-13

The Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, specifically the CA 144 FW, is currently seeking a highly qualified Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) to join their unit. This position supports the Air Operations program through both specialized flight operations and administrative duties.

Position Details

This is a T32 Excepted Service position that may be filled on a permanent, indefinite, or temporary basis. Applications are reviewed on a rolling 30-day basis, and the announcement will remain open until all available positions are filled.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The primary function of this role is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft. Responsibilities include:

  • Performing administrative tasks to support the Air Operations program.
  • Reviewing and analyzing mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information.
  • Filing flight plans and conducting essential crew briefings.
  • Conducting aircraft preflight inspections, equipment assessments, and overseeing loading procedures.
  • Supervising or performing work in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, and reconnaissance.
  • Training crew members in mission-specific tasks.
  • Advising commanders and developing plans and policies to ensure compliance with Department of Defense, National Guard Bureau, and OSHA safety standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates must possess a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification from an accredited civilian aviation program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school. Candidates must also have at least one year of on-the-job experience in the grade or comparable military rank immediately below the next higher level.

Specialized Experience (GS-2181-13): Candidates must demonstrate 36 months of specialized experience in operating specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation, including deep knowledge of flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, and flying directives.

Conditions of Employment

  • California National Guard Membership: Membership in the California National Guard is mandatory. Applicants not currently in the California National Guard must be eligible to join a compatible unit of assignment prior to federal assignment.
  • Military Compatibility: Selected candidates must hold the military grade specified for the position (O-1 through O-6) and be assigned to the appropriate military unit.
  • Uniform and Grooming: Selectees must wear the prescribed military uniform and adhere to official grooming standards.
  • Security Clearance: Must maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.
  • Compliance: Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Applicants born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Foreign education credentials must be evaluated by a recognized organization to be considered equivalent to U.S. standards. Failure to provide required documentation will result in automatic disqualification.
