Position Summary

The Air National Guard is currently seeking a highly qualified Airplane Pilot (Title 32 Excepted Service) to join the 148 OSS FT in Duluth, MN. This role involves the operation of advanced military aircraft and requires active membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Flight Operations: Pilot advanced, high-performance military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions, adhering to precision instrument flight techniques and standard procedures under all weather conditions.
  • Flight Preparation: Conduct comprehensive mission planning, including route navigation, weather analysis, fuel requirements, weight distribution, and preflight checks.
  • Safety and Coordination: Maintain total responsibility for aircraft safety, coordinate with ground and controlling activities, and execute emergency procedures as required.
  • Post-Flight Activities: Complete all required flight reports, logs, and forms, and coordinate service conditions with maintenance personnel.
  • Supervisor of Flying (SOF): Act as the Air Commander’s representative, maintaining authority over mission accomplishment, flight cancellations, and airspace utilization.
  • Program Support: Perform administrative duties as required in functional areas including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, and Safety Program management.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Must hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. A graduate degree is considered an advantage.
  • Aviation Certification: Must possess Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications from accredited civilian programs OR equivalent certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
  • Pilot Training: Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT) is mandatory.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of professional experience in aviation programs, including military service, Army National Guard aviation facilities, or Air National Guard Wing/Operations Groups.
  • Military Grades: Must hold a compatible military rank between 1st Lt/O2 and Lt Col/O5.

Conditions of Employment

  • Military Membership: Applicants must be or become members of the Minnesota Air National Guard and maintain a compatible military AFSC throughout employment.
  • Uniform Requirements: Selectees are required to wear the military uniform.
  • Medical Standards: Must maintain the same medical standards required of USAF military pilots.
  • Suitability: Employment is subject to a federal background investigation, including checks on criminal history, employment, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Selective Service: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service System.
  • Trial Period: Appointment is subject to a two-year trial period in accordance with EO 14284.

Additional Information

This position is an Excepted Service role within the Air National Guard. No Permanent Change of Station (PCS) funding is available. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
