Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) - GS-2181-13

Position Location: Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, CA 144 FW.

Position Summary

The Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot for an excepted service, T32 position. This role focuses on piloting unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing administrative duties to support the Air Operations program. This is an open-until-filled announcement; applications are reviewed every 30 days.

Duties and Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include piloting unit-equipped airplanes and managing administrative support for the Air Operations program. This position may be permanent, indefinite, or temporary, with potential for conversion or extension based on funding and agency guidelines.

Qualifications

General Requirements

  • Possession of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification from an accredited civilian program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school.
  • Minimum of one year of on-the-job experience in the grade or comparable military rank immediately below the next higher level.

Specialized Experience (GS-13)

Candidates must possess at least 36 months of specialized experience in the following areas:

  • Operating a specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation.
  • Reviewing and analyzing mission tasking, intelligence, and weather data.
  • Filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings.
  • Performing aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments.
  • Executing or supervising navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, and reconnaissance operations.
  • Training crew members in mission-specific tasks.
  • Advising commanders and developing operational plans and policies.
  • Expertise in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, and mission tactics.
  • Compliance with Department of Defense, National Guard Bureau, and OSHA safety programs.

Conditions of Employment

  • Military Membership: Applicants must be members of the California National Guard. Compatible military assignment and grade (O-1 through O-6) are mandatory.
  • Uniform and Grooming: Selectees must wear the military uniform and adhere to required grooming standards.
  • Security: Candidates must maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.
  • Administrative: Mandatory participation in direct deposit.
  • Selective Service: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.
