Position Summary
This is an Air National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position. The incumbent operates advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, on tactical and non-tactical missions. The pilot is responsible for precision instrument flight, mission qualification, and adherence to rigorous safety and operational standards in all weather conditions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Flight Operations:
Execute normal and emergency flight procedures, maintain aircraft system knowledge, and ensure mission-ready performance.

Pre-Flight Planning:
Prepare for missions by analyzing weather, mapping routes, determining fuel requirements, verifying aircraft readiness, and briefing crew and passengers.

Post-Flight Reporting:
Complete aircraft logs, file flight reports, coordinate with maintenance personnel, and perform post-flight inspections.

Supervisor of Flying (SOF):
Act as the Air Commander’s representative, managing safe mission accomplishment with the authority to divert aircraft, manage airspace utilization, and direct emergency responses.

Program Support:
Perform rotating administrative duties in areas including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, and Safety Program Management.
Requirements and Qualifications

Military Membership:
Membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard is mandatory. Applicants must be eligible for immediate military membership and assignment to a compatible Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC).

Education:
An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required. A graduate degree is preferred.

Aviation Certification:
Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT) is mandatory. Candidates must hold certifications from accredited civilian aviation programs or military aviation schools.

Experience:
Minimum of two years of working experience in civilian aviation, military aviation, or related operations group functions. Experience must include piloting and instructing in fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft.

Medical Standards:
Must maintain the same medical standards as USAF military pilots.

Suitability:
Candidates must successfully complete a federal background investigation, including checks on criminal history, employment, and fiscal responsibility.
Conditions of Employment

Must maintain active membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard.

Must wear the prescribed military uniform.

Appointment is subject to a two-year trial period in accordance with EO 14284.
