Position Overview

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position for an Airplane Pilot (Position Description Number D0253P02) with the OK 138th Fighter Wing, Oklahoma Air National Guard. The primary purpose of this role is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing administrative tasks to support the Air Operations program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pilot advanced, high-performance military fighter aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of aircraft systems, emergency procedures, and mission qualifications.
  • Execute comprehensive flight planning, including weather analysis, route determination, fuel requirements, and pre-flight inspections.
  • Operate aircraft in accordance with flight manuals, ensuring passenger and crew safety through proper briefings and adherence to procedures.
  • Complete post-flight activities, including log maintenance, reporting, and coordination with maintenance personnel.
  • Serve as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), representing the Air Commander with authority to manage flying activities, divert aircraft, and direct emergency actions.
  • Rotate through functional administrative areas, including Training and Scheduling, Operations Planning, Safety Programs, and Inspector General support.

Qualifications and Mandatory Requirements

  • Military Membership: Must be a member of the National Guard or eligible for immediate membership in a compatible military assignment.
  • Military Grade: O-1 through O-4.
  • Education: Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution is mandatory; a graduate degree is considered an asset.
  • Flight Training: Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of specialized experience in military or civilian aviation programs. Must demonstrate proficiency in piloting or instructing in specific main-frame military aircraft.
  • Certifications: Possession of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates OR appropriate military certifications/ratings.
  • Medical/Physical: Must maintain USAF military pilot medical standards.
  • Licensure: Must possess a valid state driver’s license and qualify to operate government motor vehicles.
  • Security: Ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance; work may involve access to classified information.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must wear the military uniform as required.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Subject to a federal background investigation and potential trial/probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • May require travel by military or commercial air.
  • Must be available to work non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
