Position Summary
The Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13) to join the 148 OSS FT in Duluth, MN. This role involves piloting advanced military aircraft, executing tactical and non-tactical missions, and ensuring operational readiness. The incumbent serves as the Air Commander’s representative when performing duties as Supervisor of Flying (SOF) and manages critical air operations functions, including training, scheduling, planning, and safety programs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Pilots high-performance military fighter aircraft, utilizing advanced precision instrument flight techniques.

Maintains thorough knowledge of aircraft systems and procedures under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions.

Conducts mission planning, including weather analysis, route mapping, fuel requirements, and flight plan filing.

Performs preflight checks and ensures crew and passenger briefings are completed to standard.

Operates aircraft in accordance with safety parameters and coordinates with ground and controlling activities.

Completes post-flight reporting, log documentation, and coordination with maintenance personnel.

Serves as Supervisor of Flying (SOF), with authority to manage flying activities, divert aircraft, and direct emergency actions.

Performs administrative support in functional areas: Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, and Safety Program management.
Eligibility and Requirements

Military Membership:
Applicants must be or become members of the Minnesota Air National Guard and maintain a compatible military AFSC.

Education:
An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is mandatory.

Certifications:
Must possess Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications or military aviation school certifications.

Training:
Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT) is required.

Experience:
Minimum of two years of work experience in civilian or military aviation programs (active duty, reserve, or National Guard). Must demonstrate pilot and instruction experience in fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft.

Medical Standards:
Must maintain the same medical standards as USAF military pilots.

Suitability:
Must successfully undergo a federal background investigation to validate suitability for government employment and security clearance requirements.
