Position Overview

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position located at the Oklahoma Air National Guard (OK 138th Fighter Wing). The primary purpose of this role is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing administrative duties in support of the Air Operations program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pilot advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of aircraft systems and execute all flight procedures, including emergency operations, within established parameters.
  • Manage comprehensive flight preparation, including weather analysis, route planning, flight plan filing, pre-flight inspections, and passenger/crew briefings.
  • Ensure safe mission accomplishment through rigorous coordination with ground units and controlling agencies.
  • Execute post-flight responsibilities, including logbook maintenance, flight reports, and post-flight inspections.
  • Serve as the Air Commander’s representative in the Supervisor of Flying (SOF) capacity, with the authority to oversee mission requirements, airspace utilization, and emergency actions.
  • Perform rotations in functional support areas, including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, Safety Program Administration, and Inspector General support.

Mandatory Requirements

  • National Guard membership is required for this position; applicants must be eligible for immediate military membership in the state's National Guard.
  • Military Grades: O-1 through O-4.
  • Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and qualify to operate government motor vehicles.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • Must maintain medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Education and Qualifications

  • Education: An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is mandatory. A graduate degree is considered optimal.
  • Certifications: Candidates must possess Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications or equivalent military aviation certifications.
  • Experience: Must have at least two years of experience in aviation programs (civilian or military). Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, mission tactics, and aviation unit quality control.

Conditions of Employment

  • Selectees are required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of this position constitutes concurrence with military membership requirements.
  • Position may require a trial or probationary period of up to two years.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Work may require travel and performance of duties outside of normal hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • The position may be subject to union membership.
