Position Summary

The 148 OSS FT in Duluth, MN, is seeking a professional to fill an Air National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position as an Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13). This position requires active membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard. The appointment is subject to a two-year trial period in accordance with EO 14284.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The selected candidate will perform a wide range of operational and administrative tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Piloting advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions, adhering to precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Maintaining thorough knowledge of aircraft systems, emergency procedures, and mission qualifications.
  • Executing comprehensive pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, fuel requirements, routing, and crew/passenger briefings.
  • Ensuring safe aircraft operation, communicating with ground control, and managing in-flight progress.
  • Completing all post-flight documentation, including logs, forms, and maintenance coordination.
  • Serving as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), acting as the Air Commander’s representative with authority over mission accomplishment, airspace utilization, and emergency actions.
  • Performing administrative program support in areas such as Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, and Safety program management.

Qualifications and Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is mandatory. A graduate degree is considered an asset.
  • Must hold FAA certifications from accredited civilian aviation programs OR aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.

Professional Experience

  • Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Must possess at least two years of working experience in civilian aviation programs, military service aviation (active duty or reserve), Army National Guard Aviation Support facilities, or Air National Guard Wing/Operations groups.
  • Must have experience piloting and instructing in fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft.
  • Qualifications will be assessed according to the 2025 MPP Air National Guard Qualification Standards.

Conditions of Employment

  • Current membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard is required. Candidates must be eligible for immediate military membership and compatible assignment.
  • Must maintain the medical standards required of USAF military pilots.
  • Must be eligible for and maintain a compatible Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC).
  • Incumbents are required to wear the military uniform.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service System.
  • Subject to federal employment suitability and a background investigation to validate eligibility for security clearance and DOD IT network access.
  • Ability to foster professional working relationships and contribute to a cooperative team environment.

This is an Excepted Service position. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment physical where applicable.
