Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) - GS-2181-13

Position Location: Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, CA 144 FW.

Job Summary: The primary purpose of this T32 Excepted Service position is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft and perform administrative tasks in support of the Air Operations program. This is an open-until-filled announcement; applications are reviewed every 30 days.

Duties and Responsibilities

The selected candidate will perform piloting duties and administrative support functions. Employment may be permanent, indefinite, or temporary. Indefinite and temporary appointments may be subject to non-competitive conversion or extension based on funding availability and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

General Experience: Candidates must possess a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification from an accredited civilian program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school. Candidates must also possess one year of on-the-job experience in the grade or comparable military rank immediately below the next higher level.

Specialized Experience (GS-13): Candidates must demonstrate at least 36 months of specialized competence in:

  • Operating a specific main-frame military aircraft.
  • Mission planning, preparation, and analysis of tasking, intelligence, and weather data.
  • Filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings.
  • Aircraft preflight inspections, loading, and equipment assessments.
  • Navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, and reconnaissance operations.
  • Supervising crew training and developing mission-specific plans and policies.
  • Flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, and mission tactics.
  • Compliance with Department of Defense, National Guard Bureau, and OSHA safety programs.

Core Competencies: Evaluation will be based on Education and Training Program Administration, Operation and Control, Planning and Evaluating, and Safety and Security.

Requirements and Conditions of Employment

  • California National Guard Membership: Membership is mandatory. Selectees must wear the military uniform and adhere to grooming standards.
  • Military Compatibility: Must maintain a compatible military unit, grade, and job assignment (O-1 through O-6) as required by current directives.
  • Security Clearance: Must maintain an appropriate level of security clearance.
  • Financial Compliance: Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Selective Service: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.

Education and Certification

Applicants must provide copies of FAA or military aviation certifications and/or transcripts at the time of application. Only institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education are accepted. Foreign education must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency by a recognized organization.

Additional Information

Recruitment/Relocation incentives and Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs may be authorized subject to funding, agency determination, and regulatory provisions.
