Position Overview

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service non-bargaining unit position for an Airplane Pilot (Position Description Number D0253P02) with the Montana Air National Guard, 120 OSS.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will pilot advanced single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, for tactical and non-tactical missions. Responsibilities include:

  • Executing flight procedures using advanced precision instrument techniques and air navigational aids across various weather conditions.
  • Conducting comprehensive flight planning, including weather analysis, route charting, fuel requirement calculations, and aircraft readiness verification.
  • Ensuring passenger and crew safety through thorough briefings and adherence to strict operational parameters.
  • Performing post-flight documentation, maintenance coordination, and reporting.
  • Serving as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF) and representing the Air Commander to ensure safe and efficient mission accomplishment.
  • Rotating into administrative support roles, including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, Safety Program management, and Inspector General support functions.

Qualifications and Requirements

Military and Certification Requirements

  • Must be a member of the Montana Air National Guard or eligible for immediate membership prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Current Military Grade: O4/Maj - O5/Lt Col.
  • Must be AFSC qualified in 11M3C or able to qualify within 6 months of hire.
  • Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Must hold Federal Aviation Administration certifications or aviation certifications from an accredited military aviation school.
  • Must maintain the same medical standards as USAF military pilots.
  • Must possess an undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university (transcripts required).

Experience

  • Must have a competent understanding of basic aviation principles and concepts.
  • Must possess at least two years of specialized experience in civilian or military aviation programs, Army National Guard aviation support, or Air National Guard Wing/Operations Group.
  • Must demonstrate at least two years of experience in piloting or instructing others in specific air-frame/military aircraft.
  • Experience must encompass mission planning, flight theory, navigation, meteorology, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must wear the military uniform.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • Mandatory registration with Selective Service for males born after 31 December 1959.
  • Participation in direct deposit is required.
  • External applicants must be able to start within 6 months of selection.
  • Position may require travel via military or commercial air and working non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
