Position Overview

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position for an Airplane Pilot (Position Description Number D0253P02) with the OK 138th Fighter Wing, Oklahoma Air National Guard. The primary purpose of this role is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing essential administrative tasks in support of the Air Operations program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pilot advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter jets, for tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of aircraft systems, emergency procedures, and mission qualifications.
  • Perform comprehensive pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, route mapping, fuel requirements, weight distribution, and crew briefings.
  • Execute flight operations with a focus on safety, communication, and coordination with ground and controlling agencies.
  • Complete post-flight duties, including log maintenance, reporting, and maintenance coordination.
  • Serve as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), representing the Air Commander with authority to manage mission accomplishment, airspace utilization, and emergency actions.
  • Rotate through functional support areas, including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, Safety Program Administration, and Inspector General duties.

Qualifications and Requirements

Mandatory Prerequisites

  • Must be a member of the National Guard and maintain compatibility with the military assignment.
  • Completion of USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Possession of a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a required security clearance.
  • Must meet and maintain the same medical standards as USAF military pilots.
  • Possession of an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution.
  • Military Grades: O-1 through O-4.

Specialized Experience

Candidates must possess at least two years of specialized experience in civilian or military aviation programs. Required competencies include:

  • Demonstrated ability to pilot and instruct others in the operation of specific main-frame military aircraft.
  • Expertise in mission planning, crew briefing, navigation, and tactical operations.
  • Proficiency in applying safety directives, quality control management, and operational risk management.
  • Understanding of flight theory, meteorology, and military/FAA flight regulations.

Conditions of Employment

  • National Guard membership is mandatory; selectees must wear the military uniform.
  • May require a probationary period of up to two years.
  • Subject to travel via military or commercial air.
  • Must be available for non-standard duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Mandatory participation in direct deposit.
  • Compliance with Selective Service registration requirements for males born after December 31, 1959.
