Airplane Pilot (Title 32 Excepted Service)

Position Summary

The Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot to conduct advanced military flight operations. The incumbent will pilot single or multi-engine high-performance military fighter aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions. This role requires technical precision, adherence to safety parameters, and expert knowledge of aircraft systems under normal and emergency conditions.

Major Duties

  • Execute flight procedures, precision instrument navigation, and standard maneuvers in all weather conditions.
  • Perform comprehensive pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, fuel requirements, weight distribution, and crew briefings.
  • Coordinate with ground units and controlling activities to ensure flight safety and mission success.
  • Complete post-flight requirements, including log maintenance, flight reports, and coordination with maintenance personnel.
  • Serve as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF) as a representative of the Air Commander, with authority to direct emergency actions, divert aircraft, or cancel flight operations.
  • Rotate through operational support roles, including Training and Scheduling, mission planning, and safety program management.

Qualifications

Education

  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is mandatory. A graduate degree is preferred.
  • Must possess Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.

Experience

  • Must have at least two years of experience in civilian aviation, military aviation (active or reserve), or within an Air National Guard Wing/Operations Group.
  • Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT) is required.
  • Qualified experience in piloting fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).
  • Must hold a military grade of Officer (1st Lt/O2 through Lt Col/O5).

Conditions of Employment

  • Membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard is required.
  • Selectees must be assigned to a compatible military position and maintain a compatible Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC).
  • Must be eligible for and maintain a federal security clearance; employment is subject to a federal background investigation.
  • Must maintain the same medical standards as USAF military pilots.
  • Required to wear the military uniform.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Position may be subject to a two-year trial period and/or a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
