Position Summary

The 148th Operations Support Squadron is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13). This position involves piloting advanced single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, for tactical and non-tactical missions. The incumbent ensures mission success through precision instrument flight, rigorous adherence to safety parameters, and expert knowledge of aircraft systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute standard and advanced flight procedures, including precision instrument flight, under all weather conditions.
  • Perform comprehensive flight planning, including weather analysis, route navigation, fuel calculations, and aircraft pre-flight inspections.
  • Coordinate and communicate with ground units and controlling activities to ensure operational safety.
  • Complete post-flight activities, including logbook maintenance, flight reports, and maintenance coordination.
  • Serve as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), representing the Air Commander with the authority to manage mission requirements, airspace utilization, and emergency actions.
  • Rotate through operational support roles, including Training and Scheduling, mission planning, and safety program administration.
  • Ensure compliance with Air Force, Air National Guard, and OSHA safety regulations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Military Membership: Must be a member of the Minnesota Air National Guard or eligible for immediate membership/appointment in the required military grade (Officer 1st Lt/O2 to Lt Col/O5).
  • Education: A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. A graduate degree is considered optimal.
  • Certifications: Possession of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications from accredited civilian programs OR aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of working experience in civilian aviation, military aviation (active/reserve), or an Air National Guard Operations Group/Wing.
  • Flight Training: Must be a graduate of USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Medical Standards: Must maintain the same medical standards as active-duty USAF military pilots.
  • Suitability: Successful completion of a federal background investigation and security clearance verification is required.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must maintain a compatible military position and Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC).
  • Must wear the official military uniform.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for the Selective Service.
  • Appointment is subject to a two-year trial period per EO 14284.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships in a cooperative work environment is essential.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
