Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) - GS-2181-13

The Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, at the CA 144 FW, is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) for an excepted service position. This is an open-until-filled announcement, with applications reviewed every 30 days.

Position Overview

The primary responsibility of this role is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing administrative tasks in support of the Air Operations program. Appointments may be permanent, indefinite, or temporary, with potential for conversion or extension based on funding and agency requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate unit-equipped (UE) aircraft for mission requirements.
  • Execute administrative duties to support Air Operations.
  • Perform preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments.
  • Review and analyze mission tasking, intelligence, and meteorological data.
  • File flight plans and conduct essential crew briefings.
  • Supervise navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, and reconnaissance operations.
  • Train crew members in complex mission-specific tasks.
  • Advise commanders on flight theory, air navigation, mission tactics, and safety programs.

Qualifications

General Requirements

Candidates must possess a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification from an accredited civilian program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school. Applicants must also possess at least one year of on-the-job experience in the grade or comparable military rank immediately below the next higher level.

Specialized Experience

Candidates for the GS-2181-13 level must demonstrate at least 36 months of specialized competence in operating specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation. Applicants will be evaluated on competencies in Education and Training Program Administration, Operation and Control, Planning and Evaluating, and Safety and Security.

Conditions of Employment

  • Military Membership: Applicants must be members of the California National Guard and maintain a compatible military unit, grade, and job assignment.
  • Uniform Standards: Selectees must wear the required military uniform and adhere to grooming standards.
  • Security Clearance: Candidates must obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.
  • Financial Requirements: Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Selective Service: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.
