Airplane Pilot - Montana Air National Guard
Position Summary:
The Montana Air National Guard (120 OSS) is currently accepting applications for the position of Airplane Pilot (Position Description Number D0253P02). This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service, non-bargaining unit position. This role involves the operation of advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, to conduct tactical and non-tactical missions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Execute advanced precision instrument flight techniques and standard maneuvers under all weather conditions in accordance with aircraft flight manuals.

Perform comprehensive flight preparation, including weather analysis, flight planning, route and fuel assessment, aircraft preflight checks, and passenger/crew safety briefings.

Coordinate with ground units and controlling activities during flight operations to ensure safety and mission success.

Complete post-flight activities, including maintenance reporting, flight log updates, and post-flight inspections.

Serve as the Air Commander’s representative when performing Supervisor of Flying (SOF) duties.

Participate in administrative and functional support areas, including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, Safety Program Management, and Inspector General support.
Qualifications and Eligibility Requirements:

Military Membership:
Must be a member of the Montana Air National Guard. Candidates not currently members must be eligible for immediate enlistment/appointment.

Military Grade:
O4/Maj - O5/Lt Col.

Education:
Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university (transcripts required).

Aviation Training:
Graduate of USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).

Certification:
Must hold FAA certifications from an accredited civilian program OR aviation certifications from an accredited military aviation school.

Technical Qualifications:
Must be AFSC qualified in 11M3C or able to qualify within six months of hire.

Experience:
Must possess at least two years of specialized experience in civilian or military aviation programs. Candidates must demonstrate extensive experience in mission planning, aircraft operation, flight instruction, and unit safety/quality control programs.

Medical Standards:
Must maintain current medical standards required for USAF military pilots.
Conditions of Employment:

Must wear the military uniform.

Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for the position.

Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Must be able to start within 6 months of selection (for external applicants).

Subject to background investigation and potential probationary period.

May be required to travel and work non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
