This is a Title 32 Excepted Service position within the Air National Guard. The selected individual will serve under the supervision of the Air Commander.
Position Summary
The Airplane Pilot is responsible for operating high-performance military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions. This role requires proficiency in precision instrument flight, adherence to established flight parameters, and a comprehensive understanding of aircraft systems under normal and emergency conditions. The position holder may also serve as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), representing the Air Commander in the safe and efficient execution of unit missions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Flight Operations:
Execute mission planning, including weather analysis, route navigation, fuel calculations, and filing flight plans. Conduct pre-flight inspections, coordinate with ground units, and perform post-flight documentation and reporting.

Safety and Compliance:
Maintain mission qualifications and ensure the highest standards of safety by strictly adhering to flight manuals and air traffic coordination procedures.

Program Support:
Rotate through operational support areas, including Training and Scheduling (designing aircrew training plans), Plans (developing wartime and contingency mission strategies), and Safety (administering safety programs in compliance with USAF, ANG, and OSHA directives).
Qualifications and Requirements

Education:
A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required. A graduate degree is considered an asset.

Professional Certification:
Must possess Federal Aviation Administration certifications or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.

Experience:
Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT). Candidates must possess at least two years of working experience in civilian aviation, military aviation (active duty or reserve), or equivalent Air National Guard/Army National Guard aviation support roles.

Military Membership:
Applicants must be current members of the Minnesota Air National Guard or eligible for immediate membership and appointment into a compatible Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC).

Military Grade:
Open to Officers ranging from 1st Lt (O2) to Lt Col (O5).

Medical Standards:
Must maintain medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.
Conditions of Employment

Appointment is subject to a two-year trial period and may require a probationary period.

Must wear the military uniform.

Must pass a federal background investigation to determine suitability for employment and security clearance requirements.

Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
