Job Announcement: Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) – GS-2181-13

Location: California Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, 144th Fighter Wing

Position Type: T32 Excepted Service (Permanent, Indefinite, or Temporary)

Position Summary

The Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) to operate unit-equipped (UE) aircraft. In addition to primary piloting duties, the incumbent will perform administrative functions in support of the Air Operations program. This is an open-until-filled announcement; applications are reviewed every 30 days.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Pilot unit-equipped aircraft for mission-specific operations.
• Perform administrative tasks to support Air Operations.
• Execute mission planning, preparation, and analysis of mission tasking, intelligence, and weather data.
• Conduct crew briefings and file flight plans.
• Perform preflight inspections, equipment assessments, and aircraft loading.
• Execute or supervise navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, and reconnaissance operations.
• Provide training for crew members on mission-specific tasks.
• Advise commanders on operations and develop related plans and policies.
• Ensure compliance with flight safety, ground safety, and explosive safety programs as mandated by the Department of Defense and OSHA.

Candidate Qualifications

General Experience: Applicants must hold a Federal Aviation Administration certification from an accredited civilian program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school, plus one year of on-the-job experience in the grade (or comparable military rank) immediately below the next higher level.

Specialized Experience (GS-13): Must possess at least 36 months of specialized competencies in operating a specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, and mission tactics.

Conditions of Employment

• Military Membership: Membership in the California National Guard is mandatory. Selectees must maintain a compatible military unit, grade, and job assignment.
• Uniform and Grooming: Must wear the required military uniform and adhere to official grooming standards.
• Security Clearance: Must maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.
• Financial Requirements: Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
• Selective Service: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.

Area of Consideration

• Area I: Current California National Guard employees (Permanent/Indefinite/Temporary).
• Area II: Current California National Guard members.
• Area III: Current military members of the Air Force/Army National Guard, Air Force/Army Reserve, or Air Force/Army Active Duty.

Military Grades: O-1 through O-6.
