Job Summary

This position is for an Airplane Pilot (Position Description Number D0253P02) within the Montana Air National Guard, 120 OSS. This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service, non-bargaining unit position. The selected individual will operate advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, across tactical and non-tactical missions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Airplane Pilot is responsible for executing mission-critical flight operations, including:

  • Performing advanced precision instrument flight techniques and standard maneuvers under all weather conditions.
  • Conducting mission planning, including route study, weather analysis, fuel requirements, weight distribution, and flight plan filing.
  • Ensuring safe aircraft operation by adhering to flight manuals, coordinating with ground units, and monitoring flight performance.
  • Managing post-flight activities such as maintaining aircraft logs, drafting reports, and coordinating with maintenance personnel.
  • Serving as the Air Commander's representative in the capacity of Supervisor of Flying (SOF).
  • Rotating into administrative support functional areas, including Training and Scheduling, Plans, Safety, and Inspector General duties.

Requirements and Qualifications

Conditions of Employment

  • Must maintain active membership in the Montana Air National Guard.
  • Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining the appropriate security clearance.
  • Requirement to wear the military uniform.
  • Must be AFSC qualified in 11M3C or able to qualify within six months of hire.
  • Must maintain USAF military pilot medical standards.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory; may require a probationary period and travel.

Education and Certification

  • Education: Must hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. Transcripts must be submitted with the application.
  • Certifications: Must possess FAA certifications or aviation certifications from an accredited military aviation school. Certifications must be submitted with the application.

Experience Requirements

  • Military Grades: O4/Maj - O5/Lt Col.
  • General Experience: Competent understanding of the occupation's basic principles and concepts.
  • Specialized Experience: Minimum of two years of working experience in civilian or military aviation programs, including, but not limited to, the Air National Guard or Army National Guard aviation facilities.
  • Candidates must demonstrate detailed experience in piloting and instructing pilot skills, aircraft preflight and inspection, mission planning, and adherence to safety and operational directives.
  • Applicants must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).

Additional Information

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service. External applicants must be able to commence employment within six months of selection. Work may require hours outside of the standard schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
