Position Overview: Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire)

The Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, CA 144 FW, is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13). This T32 excepted service position involves piloting unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing administrative duties to support the Air Operations program. This is an open-until-filled announcement, with application reviews occurring every 30 days.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft in accordance with military directives.
  • Perform administrative tasks to support the Air Operations program.
  • Review and analyze mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information.
  • Conduct mission planning, flight plan filing, and crew briefings.
  • Execute aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments.
  • Supervise and perform procedures for navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, and reconnaissance.
  • Train crew members in mission-specific tasks and advise commanders on operational policies.
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Defense, National Guard Bureau, and OSHA safety programs.

Conditions of Employment

  • Membership Requirement: Must be or become a member of the California National Guard.
  • Military Compatibility: Must maintain a compatible military unit, grade (O-1 through O-6), and job assignment.
  • Uniform and Grooming: Must wear the military uniform and adhere to official grooming standards.
  • Security Clearance: Must maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.
  • Financial Requirements: Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Selective Service: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service System.

Qualifications

General Experience: Candidates must possess a Federal Aviation Administration certification from an accredited civilian program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school, plus one year of on-the-job experience in the grade or comparable military rank immediately below the next higher level.

Specialized Experience (GS-13): Candidates must demonstrate 36 months of specialized experience in:

  • Operating specific main-frame military aircraft.
  • Mission planning, preparation, and execution.
  • Flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, and mission tactics.
  • Managing unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs.

Evaluation Competencies: Candidates will be evaluated on Education and Training Program Administration, Operation and Control, Planning and Evaluating, and Safety and Security.

Education and Certification

Candidates must provide copies of FAA or military aviation certifications and, where applicable, academic transcripts at the time of application. Only schools accredited by institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education will be accepted. Foreign education must be evaluated by a recognized private organization to determine U.S. equivalency.
