Job Summary

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service non-bargaining unit position for an Airplane Pilot (Position Description D0253P02) with the Montana Air National Guard, 120 OSS. This role involves piloting advanced military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Operating advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft using precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Conducting mission planning, including weather analysis, route mapping, fuel requirements, and pre-flight inspections.
  • Ensuring passenger and crew safety through comprehensive briefings and strict adherence to flight manuals.
  • Managing post-flight activities, including log maintenance, flight reporting, and coordination with maintenance personnel.
  • Serving as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF) to ensure safe and efficient mission accomplishment.
  • Performing administrative rotations in functional areas including Training and Scheduling, Plans, Safety, and Inspector General operations.

Requirements and Qualifications

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a member of the Montana Air National Guard.
  • Must be eligible for and maintain a military uniform and appropriate security clearance.
  • Must be AFSC qualified in 11M3C or able to qualify within six months of hire.
  • Must maintain medical standards required for USAF military pilots.
  • Must be able to start within six months of selection (external applicants).
  • Mandatory participation in direct deposit and adherence to Selective Service registration requirements for eligible males.

Education and Certification

  • Education: Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required (transcripts must be submitted).
  • Certifications: Must hold FAA certifications from an accredited civilian program OR aviation certifications from an accredited military aviation school (certifications must be submitted).

Experience Requirements

  • Military Grades: O4/Maj - O5/Lt Col.
  • General Experience: Competent understanding of the occupation's basic principles and concepts.
  • Specialized Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in civilian or military aviation programs, including piloting or instructing in specific main-frame/military aircraft. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in mission planning, navigation, emergency procedures, quality control, and safety program management.
