Compensation
- $30,000.00 Annual Housing Stipend
- $3,000.00 Annual IFR Stipend
- $15,000.00 Sign-On Bonus (1/2 after 90 days and 1/2 after 1 year)
Job Summary
The Pilot is responsible for ensuring aircraft and weather conditions are airworthy to safely transport medical crews and patients to receiving hospitals within an assigned operational area. This role demands strict adherence to Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), General Operations Manual guidelines (GOM), and thorough knowledge of Air Methods policies and procedures.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Operate Air Methods aircraft safely and legally.
- Conduct thorough pre-flight inspections before every flight, verifying the aircraft's airworthy condition by signing off on the Daily Flight Log. This includes a complete walk-around inspection before entering the cockpit and upon flight completion.
- Act as the final authority regarding aircraft operations and the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment.
- Maintain comprehensive familiarity with all aircraft and medical systems of backup aircraft utilized within the operational area. Ensure the medical flight team is equally familiar and comfortable with the medical interior and systems.
- Diligently complete all required documentation.
- Conduct detailed flight planning with minimal notice and to exacting standards.
- Actively participate in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Hour Requirements
Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) Program:
- 2500 total flight hours with a minimum of 2000 hours in category (300 hours TurboProp Required)
- 1000 hours PIC in category
- 500 hours of cross country flight time
- 100 hours of night flight time
- 100 hours of flight in actual instrument conditions in category
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and two to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Operation and Safety Requirements:
- Maintain a weight not exceeding 250 pounds and be under seventy (70) years old.
Skills:
- Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public, fostering a friendly and professional work environment.
- Demonstrate recent flight experience within the designated aircraft category (flown in category within the previous 24 months).
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Instrument rating (for category and class of aircraft) - ATP rating in category fulfills this requirement.
- Fixed-wing multi-engine rating is required for twin-engine aircraft.
- Commercial single-engine land rating is required for single-engine aircraft.
- First or Second Class FAA Medical Certificate is required.
Additional Job Requirements
- Regular scheduled attendance is an essential function of this position.
- This position requires approximately 10% travel.
- This position is subject to drug and/or alcohol testing as per DOT/FAA requirements (pre-employment, random, reasonable cause/suspicion, post-accident).
