Second Officer - Flight Operations
Job Purpose
The Second Officer is responsible for meticulously monitoring the progress of assigned flights, adhering strictly to the Air Arabia Operations Manual and all relevant DAC regulations. This role is pivotal in assisting the Captain to achieve paramount safety, security, and efficiency throughout each flight. The incumbent will accurately record and document all necessary flight data, provide essential support to the flight and cabin crew, and effectively implement emergency procedures when instructed. The Second Officer may assume command of the flight from the Captain when directed or as dictated by established procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- As the Second Officer, the incumbent will assist the Captain in overseeing flight progress, the operational efficiency of aircraft systems, and the performance of cabin crew. A high degree of cooperation, a systematic approach to information exchange, and adherence to task distribution are expected.
- Operates flights in strict accordance with the Air Arabia Operations Manual and DAC regulations, consistently applying and monitoring procedures to ensure safe and smooth aircraft operations.
- When directed or instructed by the Captain, pilots Air Arabia aircraft between destinations, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort in that order.
- Collaborates with the First Officer and Dispatch Team before each flight to ensure cabin crew preparedness and information dissemination. This includes discussing aircraft technical status, route preferences, weather conditions, fuel calculations, weight, passenger numbers, and role distribution.
- Conducts assigned pre-flight checks within and outside the cockpit, confirms taxiing and take-off with the Captain, and manages the input of essential flight data and documentation, such as take-off data, fuel requirements, and ATS flight plans. Regular briefings are provided to the First Officer and Captain.
- Utilizes approved systems and forms for data recording, including logbooks, CFP, and security search records. Verification of calculated data against assumed figures is performed in conjunction with the First Officer and Captain.
- At stations lacking qualified personnel, the Second Officer will verify fuel types and supervise aircraft fuelling operations, ensuring correct fuel distribution.
- Alerts the Captain to any irregularities or adverse conditions that may compromise safety and implements necessary actions as instructed. Assists crew in responding to safety or security irregularities.
- Ensures prescribed manuals, charts, maps, and forms are accurate and up-to-date, particularly the Air Arabia Operations Manual, confirming its distribution, accounting, maintenance, and adherence by flight crew for current and upcoming flights. If these conditions cannot be met, assists the First Officer/Captain in securing the aircraft until return to the home base.
- Undertakes additional ground-based duties, such as Safety or Security Officer, as directed by the Head of Flight Operations and in accordance with Part A of the Air Arabia Operations Manual.
- Maintains current knowledge of legal requirements from regulatory bodies including Civil Aviation, DAC, Airbus Company, and other relevant authorities pertaining to flights and flight crew. Participates in recurrent and competency-based training as scheduled by the Training Department.
- Assists the Captain in completing essential records and reports, such as the journey log, aircraft flight log, and safety and discretion reports. Flight envelopes are deposited in designated secure locations post-flight as instructed by the First Officer.
Qualifications
- Possession of an appropriate License (MPL, CPL) with a frozen ATPL is mandatory.
- Successful completion of the technical/psychometric assessment for First Officer, as per Air Arabia/DAC standards.
- Valid Aviation Class One Medical certificate for First Officers, in accordance with DAC regulations.
- Formal training in safety and emergency response is essential; a formal qualification is advantageous.
- Basic training in airport and security procedures and regulations is considered an advantage.
- Proficiency in operating aircraft systems and Microsoft Office Suite, with strong internet and web search capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with capabilities in technical report writing and presentations.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Arabic and French languages is advantageous.
- Applicants must hold Moroccan nationality.
