Job Purpose

The Second Officer is responsible for meticulously monitoring the progress of assigned flights, ensuring strict adherence to the comprehensive provisions of the Air Arabia Operational Manual and all relevant DAC regulations. This role is crucial in supporting the Captain to achieve the highest standards of safety, security, and efficiency throughout each flight. The Second Officer accurately records and documents all necessary flight data, provides essential support to flight and cabin crew, and is prepared to effectively implement emergency procedures when instructed. Furthermore, this position may involve taking command of the flight from the Captain, as per established procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acts as the Second Officer, collaborating with the Captain to oversee flight progress, the operational integrity of aircraft systems, and the performance of cabin crew. Demonstrates exceptional cooperation and a methodical approach to information exchange, while effectively managing task distribution.
  • Operates on flights in strict accordance with the Air Arabia Operations Manual and DAC regulations, consistently applying and monitoring procedures to ensure safe and seamless aircraft operations.
  • Pilots Air Arabia aircraft between destinations when directed or instructed by the Captain, prioritizing safety above all else, followed by efficiency and passenger comfort.
  • Conducts pre-flight coordination with the First Officer and Dispatch Team to ensure cabin crew readiness and provide critical information, including aircraft technical status, route specifics, weather forecasts, fuel calculations, passenger loads, and role assignments.
  • Performs assigned pre-flight checks within and outside the cockpit, confirms taxiing and take-off with the Captain, and handles essential data input and documentation tasks, such as calculating take-off data, fuel requirements, and filing ATS flight plans. Provides regular briefings to the First Officer and Captain.
  • Utilizes approved systems and forms for data recording, including logbooks, CFP, and security search documentation. Verifies calculated data against expected parameters in conjunction with the First Officer and Captain.
  • At locations lacking qualified personnel, verifies fuel types and supervises aircraft fuelling operations, ensuring accurate fuel distribution.
  • Alerts the Captain to any irregularities or adverse conditions that could compromise safety, implements necessary actions as directed by the Captain, and assists crew in responding to safety or security incidents.
  • Reviews all required manuals, charts, maps, and forms, ensuring the Air Arabia Operations Manual is distributed, accounted for, maintained, and updated. Confirms compliance by Flight Crew for current and upcoming flights. In situations where this is not feasible, assists the First Officer/Captain in securing the aircraft until its return to the home base.
  • Undertakes supplementary ground-based duties, such as Safety or Security Officer, as assigned by the Head of Flight Operations and in line with Part A of the Air Arabia Operations Manual.
  • Maintains current knowledge of legal requirements from regulatory bodies including Civil Aviation authorities, DAC, Airbus Company, and others pertinent to flight operations and flight crew. Participates in recurrent and competency-based training programs as scheduled.
  • Assists the Captain in the completion of essential records and reports, such as the journey log and aircraft flight log, as well as safety and discretion reports. Secures flight envelopes in designated locations post-flight upon instruction from the First Officer.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Possession of an appropriate License (MPL, CPL) with a Frozen ATPL is mandatory.
  • Successful completion of the technical and psychometric assessment for First Officer, meeting Air Arabia/DAC standards.
  • Holding a valid Aviation Class One Medical Certificate as required for First Officers by DAC regulations.
  • Formal training in safety and emergency response is essential; a formal qualification in this area is advantageous.
  • Basic training in airport and security procedures and regulations is considered an advantage.
  • Proficiency in operating aircraft systems, with advanced skills in Microsoft Office, internet usage, and web searching.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and presentation abilities.
  • Fluent command of the English language; proficiency in Arabic and French languages is advantageous.
  • Applicants must hold Moroccan nationality.

  • Proficiency in understanding and applying Quality Assurance (QA), Safety, Security, and Audit procedures relevant to Flight Operations.
  • Possesses a composed, self-assured, and focused demeanor, capable of efficiently managing emergencies and threats.
  • Proven ability to identify operational irregularities and propose effective solutions.
  • Cost-conscious, exhibiting strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to high accuracy.
  • Skilled in leveraging technical expertise and interpersonal relationships to support organizational objectives.
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to contribute to and successfully achieve business strategies and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
