Aviation Training Specialist

This individual will be responsible for the meticulous examination of pilot training programs and proficiency checks. This includes conducting Pilot Proficiency Checks to assess skills related to initial type ratings and/or the issuance of the Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the design and implementation of effective, timely pilot training programs that align with operational needs and performance standards outlined in the Operational Manual Part (D).
  • Ensures all instructors and pilot trainees adhere to stringent quality standards and GCAA/CAA regulations, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort.
  • Collaborates with supervisors/managers to ensure comprehensive training programs, encompassing theoretical and practical elements including: Initial and Recurrent Trainings, Aircraft Systems and Layout, Simulator training, and Crew Resources Management.
  • Works with various teams to identify training requirements for flight crews, develops training schedules and agendas, monitors training progress against trainee performance, and provides reports to management.
  • As an approved "SFE" (Synthetic Flight Examiner), provides consistent guidance and support to Training Instructors, conducts leadership courses and one-on-one coaching sessions to enhance their performance. Observes the performance of the SFI line with their approved KPI.
  • Evaluates pilot, first officer, and second officer competency, issues appropriate certifications, and diligently maintains records of all licenses and certificates. This includes tracking renewal dates to prevent any suspensions, disqualifications, or fines.
  • Ensures the Flight Operations Manual is consistently updated, communicated to all pilots, and integrated into training courses. Adherence to regulations and procedures set by GCAA/CAA, IOSA, and other regulatory bodies is paramount.
  • Partners with the Chief Pilot and OCC Manager to ensure all essential notices concerning pilot training, licensing, and qualifications are disseminated to relevant personnel.
  • Supports the training team during internal and external audits by ensuring all necessary documents, reports, attendance sheets, and records are up-to-date and compliant with established standards.
  • Contributes to the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive question bank for pilot selection and evaluation exams. Maintains the safety and readiness of facilities, equipment, tools, as well as the integrity of tests and results.
  • Supports new hires through the Induction Program on the Learning Management System (LMS) and simulator training. Provides guidance, answers queries regarding course content, and attends briefings to assess pilot knowledge.
  • Provides support to other hubs in evaluating training programs and Training Instructors as required. Conducts training courses for "Third Parties" according to approved SLAs and contracts.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must possess or have previously held a Commercial Pilot License (CPL), Multi-crew Pilot License (MPL), or Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) in the relevant aircraft category.
  • Must have successfully completed a proficiency check for the issuance of the specific aircraft type rating in a Full Flight Simulator (FFS) within the 12 months preceding application.
  • For a Synthetic Flight Instructor (SFI) for multi-pilot aeroplanes or SFI(PL), the applicant must also have:
    • A minimum of 1,500 hours of flight time as a pilot on multi-pilot aeroplanes or powered-lift aircraft.
    • Within the 12 months preceding the application, completed, either as a pilot or an observer, at least:
      • 3 route sectors on the flight deck of the relevant aircraft type; or
      • 2 line-orientated flight training-based simulator sessions, conducted by qualified flight crew on the flight deck of the applicable type. These sessions must include two flights of at least 2 hours each between two different aerodromes, and the associated pre-flight planning and debriefing.
