Job Summary
AECOM Hunt is actively recruiting a dedicated Digital Technology / Drone Pilot Apprentice to enhance its esteemed Construction Management team in Los Angeles, California. This pivotal role is designed to support field engineers and surveyors by leveraging cutting-edge drone technology to streamline project workflows. The apprentice will be instrumental in capturing critical site imagery and video data, processing this information into actionable deliverables, and integrating it into advanced construction management platforms. This internship provides an invaluable opportunity to develop essential hands-on skills, bridging the gap between academic learning and professional practice in the dynamic field of construction technology and aerial data capture.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct supervised drone flights utilizing DroneDeploy flight paths to capture comprehensive site imagery and video.
- Document existing site conditions, excavation and earthwork progress, foundation verification, steel erection sequencing, and decking/rebar/formwork.
- Verify MEP in-deck utilities and conduit installations, as well as pad placements and underground utility tie-ins.
- Process captured drone data into professional deliverables, including orthomosaics, 3D models, point clouds, and volume reports.
- Upload processed deliverables to AECOM Hunt's construction management platforms, such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Revizto, Navisworks, and DroneDeploy.
- Support Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) initiatives by meticulously documenting as-built conditions prior to concealment.
- Maintain accurate and organized flight logs, equipment checklists, and photo/video archives for comprehensive project records.
- Contribute to Clash Detection Reviews within coordination platforms.
- Perform jobwalks to verify as-built conditions against project plans.
- Adhere strictly to site safety protocols, acting as a site safety officer 100% of the time while on-site.
- Produce high-quality jobsite imaging for project documentation purposes.
- Review and assist in action planning for issue lists generated by VDC Managers or Superintendents.
- Support the team across various documentation methods, including 360 photos, laser scans, drone flights, video, and photographic documentation for data retrieval, encompassing existing condition documentation and progress tracking for construction activities.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Current enrollment in a construction technology program is essential.
- Demonstrated drone piloting skills and pursuit of FAA certification.
- Completion of at least 2 semesters (270 instructional hours) focusing on aerial data capture, site documentation, OSHA safety training, and drone operations theory.
- Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license.
- Ability to successfully pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- FAA Part 107 Certification.
- OSHA 10-Hour Safety Certification.
