The Worldwide Aviation Support Services (WASS) Program:
Headquartered in Rockledge, Florida, the WASS program, an AAR business, provides world-class aviation solutions to the US Department of State Air Wing.
Role Description:
This position serves as the Site Operations Manager's representative in the implementation of the organization's Aircrew Training Program (ATP) with respect to maintenance. The successful candidate will maintain and manage flight records, the Air Wing Information System (AWIS), and update aviation references and publications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Functions as a Maintenance Examiner, conducting training and evaluations of fixed wing Maintenance Pilots (MP) and Maintenance Examiners (ME) at deployed locations. Oversees maintenance standardization programs at these locations.
- Executes operational checks, routine maintenance, and maintenance test flights to guarantee the airworthiness of the aircraft fleet.
- Must achieve full mission qualification in the aircraft type.
- Plans flight assignments, gathering information on flight purpose, weather conditions, operating procedures, and special instructions.
- Prepares or supervises the preparation of flight plans, considering factors such as altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, cruise control data, airport facilities, and navigational aids. Ensures the presence of a complete flight kit.
- Confirms that required airworthiness inspections have been completed and any discrepancies addressed or properly deferred according to the MEL for the aircraft, if applicable.
- Supervises or carries out the aircraft preflight inspection and preparation.
- Ensures proper loading, distribution, and security of cargo. Coordinates the placement of carry-on baggage in the cargo area, as necessary.
- Verifies that aircraft weight and balance are within prescribed limits. Prepares the Aircraft Flight Maintenance Log, Load Manifest, and Discrepancy Record form. Ensures delivery of a copy of each form to the Operation Support Manager for filing upon completion of each flight assignment.
- Confirms the presence of survival equipment and any special emergency equipment, such as life vests, when required.
- Maintains ultimate responsibility for logging aircraft flight time, filing and closing flight plans, and preparing flight and duty time records.
- Ensures the preparation of the Aircraft Flight Maintenance Log, Load Manifest, and Discrepancy Record form, reporting of mechanical irregularities and discrepancies, and the proper recording of maintenance by maintenance personnel when work is performed away from the principal operations base.
- Responsible for maintaining ramp security while passengers are boarding or disembarking.
- Conducts security assessments prior to each flight.
- Possesses a thorough understanding of Rules of Engagement (ROE).
- Maintains adequate rest and adheres to proper dress code.
- Delegates functions to other personnel while retaining overall responsibility.
- Position requires a U.S. Security Clearance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- FAA Commercial and Instrument Airman's Certificate - Airplane MEL.
- FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- Current FAA Class II Medical certificate.
- Documented civil or military maintenance test pilot course completion.
- Successful completion of an FAA Type Rating Course in the selected aircraft type is required before assignment.
- 1,500 total fixed wing flight hours, including 500 hours of turbine engine time, and 250 hours as an MEL pilot in command.
- 100 hours of maintenance pilot time.
- Unrestricted type rating.
- Spanish Level L-2, R-2 required for LATAM Programs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a US Military Maintenance Pilot qualified and/or support on the DoS program.
- Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rating from the FAA.
OCONUS Requirements:
- Ability to pass physical screening.
- Valid passport with 18 months remaining.
- LATAM positions require Level 2 Spanish proficiency.
- Willingness to relocate.
